Welcome to Dagris Villa! I'm Margarita — your host, guide, occasional translator, and go-to island insider. I spent so many summers as a teenager here, I live here now, and I never get tired of helping guests discover the real Santorini. Below are some of the questions I get asked the most. If you’re wondering about something else, just ask at reception — I’m usually not far away.

What’s the best way to get around the island?

If you’re comfortable driving, renting a car is the easiest way to explore freely, especially if you want to visit less touristy places. ATVs are popular but less safe and not great for long distances. Taxis are limited and can be expensive, so for short distances or beach hopping, the local bus (KTEL) is reliable and cheap. Ask me for a copy of the schedule — it changes with the season.

Where can I see the sunset without the crowds?

Oia is famous but packed. My favorite spot? The hidden chapel near Megalochori with a view of the caldera — much quieter and very romantic. Akrotiri Lighthouse and the windmill hill also have amazing views. Or go for a cocktail at a caldera-side bar in Pyrgos and skip the stress.

Is it worth renting a car or ATV?

Yes, especially if you want to explore villages like Pyrgos, Emporio, or beaches like Kouloumpos and Kampia. Just be careful with parking in busy areas like Oia or Fira. ATVs look fun but can be tricky on the roads.

What are your favorite local dishes to try?

Grilled calamari, fava with caramelized onions, white eggplant in tomato sauce, tomato fritters (tomatokeftedes), and fresh fish of the day. If you’re up for it, try rakomelo — a warm drink made with raki and honey. It’s how we stay warm and say “yamas” over and over again in the winter.

Where do you go for a quiet swim?

Eros Beach (by Theros bar) is stylish but calm. Kouloumpos is great for a long walk and a quiet float. Kampia is more remote but perfect if you want to swim, read, and do absolutely nothing. I have a whole blog post on this if you want more!

I only have one day — what should I do?

Start with coffee in Pyrgos, swim at Kamari, explore Megalochori, and stop at a winery or the cultural experience center Symposium. Catch the sunset from somewhere peaceful like the Heart of Santorini, then take an evening stroll through Fira before heading to the airport. Let me help you plan it based on the weather and traffic.

How do I book a catamaran cruise (and which one)?

I used to work in yachting, so I know all the best companies. I recommend Vista Yachting for sunset cruises — and I can help you book it from reception. Just ask! There are different routes and price points depending on the season.

Any tips for visiting Oia without the stress?

Go early in the morning or after sunset. Or skip the main viewpoint and wander the back alleys instead — they’re just as beautiful. Parking is difficult, so I recommend taking the bus or having a driver drop you off.

Can I walk to restaurants from Dagris Villa?

Yes! Kamari has a long beach promenade with lots of options. Galini (my favorite) is just steps away from the hotel and great for fish and local wine. Soul by Splash is also nearby for breakfast or Mediterranean-style dinner. I’m happy to make a reservation for you.

What should I know about the buses?

All buses are operated by KTEL and clearly marked. The nearest stop is a 1-minute walk away on the main road (next to the little white building). Buses to Fira run regularly and from there you can change to almost any other destination. Schedules shift often, so grab the latest version at reception.

Still curious? Just ask. That’s what I’m here for. ❤️
